Is college confidential a good site for college admissions advice?

Yes or no?

all experience welcomedIs college confidential a good site for college admissions advice?
College Confidential can sometimes have good advice, but most of the time it will just make you less confident. The reason is most students on that forum boast amazing scores, extra curricular and GPA's, making it seem near impossible to get into some schools (even though with the right moves you might have a better chance).

My suggestion is to stick with the Dean's advice, a section on the site, and the college tours section. Is college confidential a good site for college admissions advice?
There are good and bad aspects to the site.

Good: It can have real students willing to answer questions as well as people with good experience at the college admissions process. It also can you basic information on a college, SAT, and financial aid.

Bad: The people can try to make people feel bad if they don't maintain perfect scores, GPA, and extra stuff outside of school. I also think people tend to purport stereotypes about a school if they don't really know it.

Does anyone have advice for an absolute beginner to web site design?

I have been asked to write a very basic site for a small club with no money available for a web designer or any web writing software. I dont really know where to start. I have ideas for the look of the site and was going to attempt to use Kompozer to write it. All advice is welcome.Does anyone have advice for an absolute beginner to web site design?
Building a website is not a difficult or expensive operation, but mastering web development can take a lifetime.

First, I've got to agree heartily with Joel you should look up a Dummies book on the topic. How about mine? (grin)

Seriously, I've got tons of examples online for my book on how to build great web sites from scratch for free.

Don't spend any money on an editor like FrontPage or DreamWeaver. They're good tools, but they teach you bad habits, and eventually you'll find yourself turning off all the 'helpful' features.

Aptana (http://www.aptana.com) has a free open source version of its aptana studio software which really helps you build web sites and also helps you see how the code underneath is truly built. A copy of Aptana is on the CD that comes with my book.

Begin with straight XHTML 1.0 strict. Learn how to write it by hand. It's actually pretty easy to learn; you should have a basic page up and running within a day or two.

Then learn how to use CSS to beautify your sites. CSS allows you to change colors, layouts, fonts, and other aspects of the visual design of your layout.

Use validation tools from the beginning to teach yourself good habits, and you're on your way to building great pages!Does anyone have advice for an absolute beginner to web site design?
A popular beginner web site design software is WebEasy Professional at http://www.webeasyprofessional.com and is only $35. A good review about WebEasy Professional 7 can be read at http://www.webprodeluxe.com/

If you want a free website from Microsoft that also includes a free domain name, e-mail accounts and internet marketing tools read more at http://www.freewebsiteclickhere.com

Another web design software resource that compares 5 web site design programs for beginners is http://www.websitesoftware.ws The site compares Yahoo Website Hosting, Microsoft Office Live Web Sites, WebEasy Professional 7, Homestead Websites and WebSite X5 easy web site design software. None of the above web design programs require technical knowledge or experience with HTML coding, the web design software automatically generates the HTML code for you.
All I can say is go with your heart, and let everything flow from there. You will develop your own style, and once you do it for a while you will be able to do it in your sleep. Just keep it unique, that's what's always helped me, don't be afraid to let your own style shine through.
Hi, if you would like a site made FREE please contact me.

I am doing HND Computing and looking to create some websites from the bottom up for people - for free of course.

I can even point you in the direction of cheap .com and web hosting services - and even take care of the setup if you wish :)

if your interested in this please contact: info@hirrarious.com

**please note I am not a company and the above email is one that I will be using when I finish my current website.
Begin with setting up your own webpage as your current internet provider will provide free hosting as discussed below.

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a ';homepage'; which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool which is totally free. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.

Nevertheless, the ';homepage'; URL is likely to be ';http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe鈥?name'; and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., ';mydomain.com'; which allows you to link any registered domain name to ';mask'; another website. For example, should you type in the ';domain name,'; you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber鈥?/a> a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.

When you acquire a domain name, connect it using a redirection service [as discussed above] and submit/publish the domain name on major search engines/directories in order for Net surfers to find your website.

    Good luck!

You should check them out with the legal board that licenses attorneys in your state.Anybody know of a site I can go to that will offer advice on how to deal with a shifty attorney?
You're here, fella. Ask away! (p.s. shifty attorney is redundant.)Anybody know of a site I can go to that will offer advice on how to deal with a shifty attorney?
Sounds like you need a different lawyer.
first we need to know how you got involved with a sifty attorney...did you contact him?

Call another - reputable, if you can find one - lawyer for advice. Don't look for serious advice in this kind of forum which consists of ';outhouse lawyers';.
    Contact the Bar association.
If you decide to take manners into your own hands, I'm sure Vice Prez Cheney would suggest quail hunting....
